The Fresh Market
If you’ve ever been to The Fresh Market in Lexington KY, you already know that it is a place for those who love cooking.
They have a great selection of higher quality grocery items and a small selection of essentials like toilet paper, etc… The produce section always looks pristine with lots of fresh fruits and vegetables, and the produce clerks are always happy to let you try anything you would like to sample. The deli has lots to choose from and you can try just about anything you like to see if it’s right for what you’re doing.
The backbone of the store, however, would have to be the Meat and Seafood Department. There is no question that The Fresh Market has the best looking Meat Department in Lexington and everyone who visits looks in amazement at the huge selection of Chicken and Steak Kabobs, Gourmet Burgers, Thick Cut Steaks, and all the other items that go great on the grill. You can even buy bacon by the slice. The Seafood Department has a wide variety of fresh fish and gets up to 15 deliveries per week, so you always know that you can get exactly what you want pretty quickly.
The Fresh Market is located on Tates Creek Rd. by New Circle in The Lansdowne Shoppes. It shares a parking lot with Louie’s Flower Power Shop.

The Fresh Market does INDEED have one of the most unique specialty grocery stores that you could visit… But that is no where near a bad thing! You can honestly stop by and just pick up exactly what you want for the dinner that you are making that night without the hassle of having to buy somewhat in bulk. If you want a steak and potato, don’t worry, because you will get the best ribeye that you could imagine (and have it cut to your liking) and a very delicious potato at the same time! A definite MUST VISIT destination for a delightful home-cooked meal!!!
As a former Employee I hated The Fresh Market. This is mainly due to the poor management. The store manager John Uzl is not a very knowledgeable manager and I feel this brought down the atmosphere in the store between employees and customers. Employees were always breaking rules and not following the Fresh Market policy. Not all Fresh Markets are this way. I love any Fresh Market, but the one in Lexington. The store has turned over about 75% of its employees (meaning they left) including me. I feel that the Good Foods Market and Cafe in Lexington did a much better job treating customers. They would always order special items for you when other places wouldn’t. When I worked at Fresh Market the management never tried to get new products in like they did at the Louisville store or any other store. The quality of product from Fresh Market is not that high either. They used processed meats, and get everything out of industrial tubs, and bags. Very little cooking is done at Fresh Market, unlike Good Foods or Wild Oats. I feel that the only department in Fresh Market that was notable was the Sushi department. They knew how to make the Sushi. They were treated badly too though making 5.00 dollars an hour after taxes and working 8 days a week for 12 hours a day with no benefits. Ike in the sushi department is very knowledgeable and will help you. If I was you I would stay away from the Fresh Market when you truly get a behind the scenes look at how the place is run and how the employees are treated. I will never work or shop there speaking as a former employee.
You are saying that employees didn’t follow the rules and that there is a 75% turnover rate. Did they quit because management wouldn’t tolerate their behavior? Sounds like a well managed store to me.
